Bonn-Auerberg Compared to its neighbors, Auerberg has only just left its youth behind and has just grown up, while Bonn-Castell, Graurheindorf and Buschdorf bear the distinctive features of their venerable age. Many centuries there, around 100 years here. Auerberg has borne its name since 1966, derived from old field names for the fields to the left and right of the already Roman Kölnstrasse, not far from the Roman camp. Auerberg now has around 10,000 inhabitants. In the new development area on the northern outskirts of Bonn you will find a quiet residential area in the immediate vicinity of the Rhine. In addition, Auerberg has good shopping facilities, secondary schools and the Sportpark Nord with a swimming pool and is characterized by good local transport connections and its flat cycle paths, which can be used to reach Bonn city center in just 15 minutes. Bonn-Castell The name “Castell” is reminiscent of the Roman past of Bonn and the district, as are some of the district’s street names such as: E.g. the Römerstraße, the Legionsweg or the Augustusring. The Roman military camp “castra bonnensia” formed the nucleus around which the city of Bonn later emerged. Several street names still remind us of the Roman camp, such as “Am Römerlager” and “Augustusring” and the reconstruction of a Roman crane. When the Rhine is at low water, the remains of the former Roman port can be seen. A good shopping infrastructure for daily needs can be found along Kölnstrasse, which also forms the border to the northern part of the city. In Castell you will find a lot of residential development, office and administrative buildings, several institutes of the University of Bonn, as well as numerous federal authorities and churches worth seeing, such as the Catholic parish church of St. Joseph from 1931, a brick building in the Bauhaus style by the Cologne architects Boell and Neuhaus. In summer, the Römerbad outdoor pool, located directly on the banks of the Rhine, attracts numerous visitors. The promenade with footpaths and cycle paths running along the Rhine offers plenty of opportunity to stroll and do sports. The many green spaces invite you to linger and relax. In Bonn-Castell you can find urban life in the immediate vicinity of the Rhine, ideal for people of any age who appreciate short distances but are not necessarily fanatics of peace and quiet. Bonn-Nordstadt Today's Bonn Nordstadt is a mature district on the edge of the historic old town and close to the city center. Its origins are approximately the same as that of the Südstadt. The northern part of the city was not as favored in terms of landscape as the southern part of the city and so it developed more into a residential area for the lower middle class. Some of the predominantly three-story residential buildings built in this district have commercial space in the basement or in extensions. In contrast to the southern part of the city, almost all residential buildings had no balconies or front gardens. Narrow, winding streets and old houses characterize the southern part of the Nordstadt (Innere Nordstadt), which has therefore been referred to as the “Old Town” since the mid-1970s. Due to the many pubs, this district was and still is very popular with students and young people. To the northeast, this district is bordered by Kölnstrasse. The entire Nordstadt district has been under monument protection since 1990. In the northern part of the city there are kindergartens, schools, small businesses, cafés, restaurants and Kunstcarré. Near the town hall, at the southern end of the northern part of the city, is the “Old Cemetery,” which was laid out in 1715 and contains the graves of famous Bonn personalities. The Bonner Kunstverein and the Künstlerforum Bonn are located opposite the listed Frankenbad, one of Bonn's four indoor swimming pools, on Hochstadenring. At the Viktoria Bridge you will find the famous August Macke House, where exhibitions about the artist are shown, and the Women's Museum is also in the northern part of the city. There are also a number of church buildings to marvel at, including the neo-Gothic Catholic city church of St. Marien, located on Adolfstrasse and the corner of Oppenhoffstrasse, built between 1887 and 1892, which is one of the most important and purest churches in Bonn's city center. The Ludwig Erhard vocational college for business and administration is also located in the northern part of the city. The district has the large “Distributor Circle” commercial area with a direct connection to the A555 and A565.
